The future diary will be an international web project. It’s 2017, and you are invited to submit your media entries from the future. Videos, documentaries, articles, blogs, animations, illustrations, graphic novels, comic strips, fashion designs, architecture designs. It’s up to you.

Why enter enter the competition?

The competition is an opportunity for students to express their creativity and media skills by interpreting a future world based on the scenario imagined in the book. It's an excellent opportunity to think about the imact of the way we live on our environment. Not only that but you could win an iPod nano!

What type of things can be entered in the competition?

We'd like to leave this as open to your imagination as possible, but the two most popular media types are video and images. Many different types of image, video and aduio files are accepted by our entry system.

How do submit my entry?

The first step is to create your entry

  1. Go to the Competition Gallery and click on the 'upload' link on the right
  2. Now you'll get to choose to link to media on Youtube, Yahoo Video or other site or upload your files directly to www.carbondiaries.com.
  3. If you don't want other users to be able to see your video then you can choose the option publish: No. The default setting is 'Yes', which means other site users can view, rate and comment on your entry.

I'm a school teacher. What advice do you have for using this as a class exercise?

The first thing is to make sure that all students understand the premise of the carbon Diaries books, and have an understanding of the type of world that exists in these books and issues facing society. If you can set up an account with Yahoo video, this will allow you to upload all videos to the site and students can easily use the links to these to make their entries through this site. If you are creating static images or other media then students can upload these directly to the Carbon Diaries site.

How is the winner chosen?

You will notice when you view entries that you can leave comments and rate entries. This will allow you to share ideas and support other users. If you are logged into facebook, you will also be able to 'like' media and share a link to them with your friends that way. The winner will be chosen by...
